Research Strategy

As well as using a questionnaire approach opportunities would be taken to make quantitative measurements of milk offtakes in a sample of cows.

One of the objectives of the survey was to help to determine the types of research studies that might be possible in the future. The results from this initial survey indicated that the Orma people had good knowledge of the different diseases that affected their cattle and the treatment of them. The research strategy thus developed into a more thorough investigation which used participatory methods to determine the views of the Orma people on the importance of trypanosomosis and its control. This latter study is summarised briefly at the end of this case study.
